HUGHES: IT`S CRUNCH TIME

They will obviously, as always, look at a game against Blackburn as a winnable game but we will make sure it will be a difficult day for them I am sure."

Despite their consistent qualification for Europe Blackburn are still viewed in some quarters as a 'small' club and their talents are often under-estimated.

But the perception of his side is not something that concerns Hughes, especially as he feels it may actually benefit Rovers.

"We just get quietly on with the work we do and don't create a great deal of attention," added the former Wales boss.

"There are advantages of just getting on with your work and being slightly under the radar - you can surprise people."

Winger Morten Gamst Pedersen believes Blackburn are more than a match for Keegan's side, despite Newcastle being perceived as more significant than their Ewood Park rivals.

'Midtown' unveiled; project aims to spur transformation of Upper King ...

Detailed plans have been laid out for Midtown, a long-planned hotel, condo and retail project on Upper King and Meeting streets, and the similarities with Charleston Place are hard to ignore.

The opening of Charleston Place in 1986 is widely credited with revitalizing downtown Charleston, and particularly lower King Street. The developers of Midtown are hoping their $150 million project will be a catalyst for the upper end of King Street.

Waterboarding Is Legal, White House Says

On Jan. 21, 2009, there's almost certainly going to be a new president who understands that waterboarding is not only wrong but a very serious crime," said Tom Malinowski, the Washington advocacy director of Human Rights Watch.

However, Atty. Gen. Michael B. Mukasey, challenged by senators to rule on the legality of waterboarding, declined last month to say it was illegal, even though he said he would consider it torture if he were subjected to it.

Congress has passed two laws — the Detainee Treatment Act in 2005 and the Military Commissions Act in 2006 — that ban the use of harsh interrogation methods and require all U.S. agencies to comply with the Constitution and the Geneva Conventions in their treatment of detainees.

In addition, the Pentagon published a new Army field manual in 2006 that limits interrogation techniques and bans harsh methods, including waterboarding, hoods and mock executions.

Anti-racism rally draws 200 in Arlington

ARLINGTON About 200 people came to a rally today at City Hall to demand that the city make certain reparations to Silk Littlejohn and Broderick Gamble.

The group, organized by Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, said the city did not do enough in December when racial slurs were painted on the couple's garage doors and when a neighbor attacked Littlejohn with a two-by-four.

City officials were not at the rally. Shortly after the December incident, Mayor Robert Cluck issued an apology on the city's behalf to Littlejohn and Gamble. Cluck released a statement after the rally, that said, in part, "We welcome those who are here for the rally today and encourage them to express their opinions and share their thoughts. Arlington is an open, fair, and progressive community that comes together and supports all its residents."
