Mike Pound: Pick a remote, bang it on your hand

We have a lot of remotes in our house. Some of those remotes are from TVs that we used to own but have long since died. Some of the remotes are from CD players that we used to own but also have long since died.

By the way, for some reason, my wife and I have had bad luck with CD players. Normally what happens when we buy a CD player is that it will work for a few months and then it will stop working. We don't know why that is, but it is. Right now we have four CD players in our house and only one of them works.

KIUC Candidates questions and answers

Fortunately, I have good people around me who support me.2. Experience: What is the largest operational budget and largest capitol budget for which you have been responsible, either as a manager or overseer?Ben Sullivan - As a project manager for an architecture firm working in Denver, Colorado, I oversaw the design and construction of mixed-use residential construction projects with capitol budgets ranging from 4 to 8 million dollars. This responsibility involved creating projects within tight budgets & timelines, negotiating contractor bids, approving construction draws, change-order negotiations and general oversight of the progress of these time and money sensitive projects. My primary experience with operational budgets comes from the running of my own small design business here on Kaua'i for the past six years.I certainly see a solid financial background as valuable experience to bring to the KIUC Board, and my experience in construction management will be an asset to the Board.

The race heats up, and the slime meter jumps

The blogs are full of talk-radio wannabes.

By comparison - and again, it's unscientific - Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose full name might not pack the partisan wallop it did from critics in the early '90s, appeared in blogs about 22,000 times last September and October, and nearly 109,000 times in January and February, a tamer, five-fold increase.

The phrase "Hillary Clinton," meanwhile, appeared about 77,000 times during the two months last fall and 443,000 times this winter, a similar, six-fold increase.

Beyond games with names, you could divine through the blogs the growing fervor of the campaign on the eve of Tuesday's pivotal Democratic primaries in Texas and Ohio.

Bloggers critical of Obama seemed to be attacking him with more zeal than his actual opponent, who inexplicably played nice on the final question of the debate in Cleveland Tuesday, when the moderator, Brian Williams, practically begged her to describe the biggest weakness of her opponent.

STREET PEOPLE: Blogger by night

Kardos is an a graduate student at UCSD working on a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. By night, the 25-year-old can be found at one of San Diego's many music venues, gathering content and taking photos for her blog, It's Too Sunny Out Here. Sometimes the East Coast transplant manages to get an hour of sleep in between the two.

Where on the East Coast are you from? "I was born and raised in Harrisburg, Pa. I spent four years in State College, Pa., getting a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State University before I moved to San Diego."

Why did you start It's Too Sunny Out Here? "Basically I realized that I was going to a ton of live shows and taking a lot of photos. I wanted a means to share my photos and thoughts on those shows in a forum that was slightly more professional than just a MySpace blog or Flickr photostream.

China dominates at team table tennis tournament in warm-up for ...

Pressure has been mounting on China as the Olympics approach. Table tennis is its national sport, and anything less than gold in the Chinese capital will be simply unacceptable.

"We gained a lot of valuable experience for the Olympics playing at this tournament in Guangzhou," men's coach Liu Guoliang told China Central Television.

The team championships brought nearly all the world's top players to southern China, and some of the matchups are likely to be repeated at the Olympics in August.

Despite China's overall dominance, the tournament revealed a few weaknesses in its game. Inexperience was a major factor as world No. 3 Guo Yue was unable to find her rhythm and lost 3-0 to Singapore's Li Jiawei in the women's final Saturday.

The 19-year-old Guo became increasingly frustrated as eighth-ranked Li, a former Chinese player, foiled her normally aggressive game.
