| Money Day in Baghdad
Months ago, they had each completed an application for a microgrant of up to $2,500, funds that were now being distributed. The recipients were interviewed and had their fingerprints and eyes digitally scanned and entered into a database. Then they signed on the line and accepted a packet of bills. In the past, soldiers distributing the money would arrive at the various small butcher shops, vegetable stands, and pharmacies in the local markets. They drew lots of attention—even attracting large groups of children who would follow the soldiers from shop to shop. The next day, invariably, those who had received the money complained that local toughs had robbed them or, worse, threatened them for "collaboration with the army of occupation." Military officials hope that having grant recipients come to the combat outpost will reduce those tensions, though word spread quickly that Monday was payday, and grant recipients were concerned about walking home with a packet of hundred-dollar bills tucked in their tunics.
Bellevue lends Huckabee pulpit
But enough of the Sunday school lesson. I know this is a waste of time, because you will never see anything but what you want to see. Please find me the scripture that says God said to take more than one wife. Not the many scriptures showing man's sinful nature. .
How the World Works
Whenever any citizen of the United States discovers a deposit of guano on any island, rock, or key, not within the lawful jurisdiction of any other government, and not occupied by the citizens of any other government, and takes peaceable possession thereof, and occupies the same, such island, rock, or key may, at the discretion of the President, be considered as appertaining to the United States. The Incas are known to have exploited offshore guano resources for fertilizer, but the mid-nineteenth century saw the true heyday of Peruvian guano, as farmers around the world discovered that the excretions of the Peruvian Booby and the Guanay Cormorant were a superb, relatively odorless, source of phosphorus and nitrogen. So began "the guano rush." In 1858, Great Britain alone imported 300,000 tons of Peruvian guano, mostly for the purpose of turnip farming.
G. Chambers Williams III: Nissan's Rogue compact crossover joins the ...
Nissan has yet another hit on its hands with the all-new Rogue. The automaker's first compact crossover, the Rogue competes against the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, the top two import brands in the small-crossover market. Introduced last fall, it's already one of the top sellers in its segment. Nissan says it positioned the Rogue to appeal to men. I like it just fine, but I'd probably give it to my wife to drive as her primary vehicle — it's not the kind of sport utility I prefer for my jaunts into the wild. My take is that the Rogue is aimed at women, while Nissan's more rugged Xterra, based on the chassis of the Frontier pickup, is the one most men would prefer (although TV ads for the Xterra have featured outdoorsy women driving it).
Welcome again to Club 4100
A few employees have left, but most have stayed. "There were some things we had to get used to," said Lee Dennett, the lead cook and a 10-year employee. "But I love the place. I love my customers." The menu, which includes a variety of salads, seafood, steak, poultry and sandwiches, will change. Some less popular items, such as the steak for four, will be removed. Chow mein and fried rice will be added to the menu and some new specials, such as curry chicken and goat, will soon be available. Menus will also feature more detailed descriptions of the dishes. All of these changes are an effort to keep the existing clientele happy and attract new customers. "People who haven't been here in five, 10 years are coming back," Mrs. Harkie said. "Colts fan are still here and will come until the day they die," Mr.
